WRSv4 enclosure

Basic information

The WRS-v4 enclosure accommodates hot-pluggable fan tray, 1U redundant power supply and expansion board. It is meant to be simple and relatively cheap to produce. The following information about concerning or relevant for the enclosure can be consulted:

  • Analysis of different enclosure options considered can be found in chapter 4.4 of Study on the features for the WRS-4 (chapters 4.2 and 4.3 on different options of fans and power supplies can be also of interest)
  • Final Hardware Specification, in particular chapters 2.1 and 2.2 concerning enclosure and fans - see WRS-v4 hardare specfications

Design files

  • v1.0 - submitted to review 1 (AutoCAD)
  • v1.1 - basis for production of the pre-prototype (AutoCAD)
  • v1.2 - first produced units (Catia, EDMS 2884092) - feedback

Prototypes

  1. Pre-prototype
    • Independent project found our mechanical design useful and they produced their own "light" version of the WRSv4 enclosure, based on the version 1.1 design (including review 1 feedback)
    • See pictures and feedback: https://ohwr.org/project/wr-switch-hw-v4/wikis/Enclosure-pre-prototype
  2. Prototype v1
    • Delivered in Feb 2023
    • See pictures and feedback: https://ohwr.org/project/wr-switch-hw-v4/wikis/enclosure-prototype-v1

Review process

  1. Reviewers provide feedback by creating issues and labeling them using Issues label name (e.g. "enclosure-review-1", see table below). Please, check already submitted issues before submitting yours to avoid repeating the same feedback (feel free to add to the existing issue). Creating issues requires account on ohwr.org, if you do have yet an account, please contact Maciej Lipinski providing the username you would like to have.
  2. Collection of review feedback finishes by deadline (see the table below), designers are welcome to reply to feedback as soon as it is submitted (no need to wait to the deadline) - it is appreciated that he designers monitors new issues regularly.
  3. Ideally, most of the discussion between reviewers and designers happens via issues.
  4. After the deadline, a meeting is organised to summarized the most important resolved issues and handle outstanding issues.
