V3-0 - Replace switched regulator by drop-down type
- Rejected (was: Replace switched regulator by drop-down type)
Discusson
- JGR: Manufacturer application note AN013_e recommends to use linear
regulator to provide the 3.3V: “Switched mode regulators will
introduce a lot of noise to the measurement”.
- NV: We only have 3.3V or 12V from on the TDC. Generating 3.3V out of
the 12V with a linear regulator will produce a “toaster”… We can
better filter the 3.3V. Another solution is to generate a +5V out of
the +12V using a switched mode reg, and then generate a quiet +3.3V
with an LDO. The problem is that the 12v power supply on VME crates
does not deliver lots of current, and we have to consider that we
can have 42 TDC cards in a 21 slot VME crate.
- EB: Recommend not to change.
