Unofficial Translations
Howto
For reasons which are well explained by the Free Software Foundation regarding the translations of the GPL and LGPL licences, CERN will not endorse any translation of the CERN OHL. Checking translations for legal correctness would be difficult and expensive, and the risk of errors slipping would be high.
However, CERN acknowledges the educational value of unofficial translations in explaining the ideas and goals of the CERN OHL. Therefore, we will link to some unofficial translations from this page if we think they can be useful for non-English speakers. Bear in mind that there is no commitment on our side as to the linking from this page to all translations we receive. In particular, we will need to be reasonably sure that the translation is accurate enough to be useful. If you have written a translation and would like it linked from this page, here's what you should do:
- To label your translations as unofficial, we propose to take exactly the same solution as the FSF. Please add the following text at the beginning of the translation, both in English and in the language of the translation. Replace <language> with the name of that language:
This is an unofficial translation of the CERN Open Hardware Licence into <language>. It was not published by CERN, and does not legally state the distribution terms for documentation and hardware that uses the CERN OHL — only the original English text of the CERN OHL does that. However, we hope that this translation will help <language> speakers understand the CERN OHL better.
- Send a message to Javier.Serrano at cern.ch and Myriam.Ayass at cern.ch with the URL where your translation can be found.
