2019-06 Aivon produces S/N 20 and beyond

As of June 2019 more than 20 pcs of the FDA/PDA design have been produced. So far the design is stable and performance has been sufficient for many users.

The conclusion is that it is quite hard to measure the performance of the amplifier, because the instrument noise-floor usually dominates!

Aivon LTD is now commercially producing the 1:8 PDA/FDA design in a 1U 19" form-factor.

Trimmer-cap modification for output-skew tuning on PDA

The pulse-distribution amplifier output skew can be tuned close to zero by the addition of a trimmer-cap on the input of the output-buffer. See initial results in Anders' blog http://www.anderswallin.net/2017/09/delay-tuning-with-trimmer-caps/

S/N005 phase-noise measurement at 10 MHz

Phase-noise measurements show a flat spur-free phase-noise and AM-noise floor of -162 dBc/Hz at >100 Hz offset from a 10 MHz carrier. Measurements at 5 MHz to follow.

S/N005 assembled and tested

Amplifier S/N 005 was assembled and tested, housing PDA2017.07 and FDA2017.07 boards.
Initial phase-noise tests show good performance, similar to the previous generation of the board.
The new PDA2017.07 design using IDT5PB1108 has very fast rise-time (to be measured), possibly a quite low output-impedance (to be fixed?) and a preliminary channel-to-channel output skew of max 250 ps.
